Fowey River Canoe Club is the South West’s top racing club producing paddlers of national standard across all age groups. We concentrate on the main competitive flat-water kayaking disciplines of Marathon (distances between 2 and 200km) and Sprint (200, 500 & 1000m) with our junior and senior paddlers attending competitions both locally and nationally. The location of the club offers fantastic opportunities, depending on tides, to paddle to Lostwithiel, Lerryn, Penpoll or down to Fowey harbour and Polruan.
It was a beautiful evening with an exceptionally high tide so we had lot's of water for all of the competitors in the wide range of craft and swimmers.
The water craft were very varied from the K1 and K2 Marathon Kayak's to Sit on Kayaks and Stand Up Paddle Boards.
The swim runner's were the first to start racing, with a water start from a barge moored on the river to the slip way which was great viewing for the spectators they ran of into kilminorth Woods to start the first run to Water Gate.
The water craft were then started in groups on ability and type, competing we had Three father and son team's, a husband and wife team and a family of four in a Canadian Canoe.
The competitors all completed the race and then enjoyed a BBQ and Prize giving of course all the prizes were edible and Cornish.
It was a really fun evening and I hope everyone enjoyed it as much as we did.
